Another new adventure! This is my first attempt to complete an oil painting. I've been eyeballing these Hydrangeas in my neighbor's yard and had an opportunity today to get permission to swipe a few. These big complicated flowers were probably a bit ambitious for my first attempt but sometimes I'm kinda crazy like that.
Whew! Handling oil is certainly nothing like acrylic! But, I think once I figure out how to do some things I'm going to love it. I see a million things wrong with this but, like I've said before, my intention is to record my progress and include the good and the bad.
With my fast drying acrylics I've been putting my little paintings on the flatbed scanner and easily getting high resolution images. Can't do that with wet oils so now I'm faced with struggling with my camera and sketchy photo skills. More things to master...

ReplyDeleteOh good luck with the camera thing! I've been painting with oils for years and I don't think I've ever got a photo of a painting that I'm happy with! Some days this really drives me nuts. Especially when galleries are more interested in seeing your work digitally. But in time I try not to let it get me too crazy anymore. After all, it's what keeps originals alive in a society that prefers the lower price tags of prints. Then I remind myself that thank God the prints are really inferior!
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangea shows great promise. I think you'll love oils after you get accustomed to them. They allow for so many wonderful color surprises that acrylics never do. Best of luck!
